Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.
This module explores the theory of desistance, and the concept of rehabilitation within the practice of the criminal justice system, particularly in relation to the prison system and probation delivery. Here, students will be provided with an overview of offender management in prisons and the community in England and Wales, to provide them with the opportunity to critically examine the management, treatment and control of individuals processed through the system and the pressures it faces.
The module will draw upon a range of lived experience perspectives to support student learning, alongside recognising wider policy and political climates through case study examples.

This will follow standard marking criteria for a level 5 essay, with a pass mark of 40. No ethical approval is required.
Students will be referred to the Module Handbook and supporting assessment briefs for full details of each assessment component attached to the module. Students will also be encouraged to interact with the module Padlet/forum to ask assessment related questions.
In addition, negotiated assessment can be included within the module and when included it will satisfy the relevant Level Learning Outcomes in the same way as named assessments.
Assessment tasks are designed to measure the extent to which you have satisfied the Level Learning Outcomes for your programme. Some modules, for example where there are professional body (PSRB) requirements, will also test for module-specific skills and knowledge.
