This module explores and examines the origins of criminology, some of its historical debates, concepts, literature and research. It outlines what are often considered the core perspectives and theories related to crime and criminality. It introduces students to the history and development of criminology as an academic discipline.

This piece of work will be broad in nature enough to allow students to use all of their module learning from across the programme. This will be in the form of essay question options, where theories of crime and criminology can be applied to a particular issue.
