SHN6193 - Prescribing Exercise Programmes for Special Populations

Objectives:

Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.

Content:

This module aims to draw together learning from your 3 years of study on Exercise, Health and Nutrition and apply this to a comprehensive understanding of the clinical features of medical conditions relevant to the field. You will make links between exercise and nutrition prescription; health, nutrition and exercise considerations related to special population groups; risks and benefits of exercise for special populations; role of behaviour change to exercise and nutritional interventions, role and responsibilities within an exercise referral scheme. In addition, you will design, instruct and evaluate exercise referral programmes drawing upon relevant theories.

Case Study: The case study will be based around a series of tasks that allow the students to demonstrate their knowledge and application of the theories which are relevant to the field of exercise health and nutrition. Tasks will include a range of activities such as client analysis, reflective writing, analyse and interpretation of collected data, producing relevant exercise interventions and instructing an exercise training session for a client with a specific health condition. These tasks will be built up over the course of the module with appropriate formative assessments throughout the year.
