Objectives:

Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.

Content:

With a continued focus on professional development, this module looks at a variety of options for the graduate strength and conditioning coach. With a focus on the multi-disciplinary nature of strength and conditioning coaching, students will be challenged to work on a case study of athletic performance. Working with another member of the cohort, students will develop a suitable training plan and provide an academic rational for its design. Practical sessions will see the students develop their abilities in peer coaching to individuals and groups. There will also be a focus on applied topics in strength and conditioning.

This Case Study assessment challenges students to present details of their work with a client (another member of the cohort). Based on a thorough needs analysis of the client and their chosen sport/activity, the student will design an appropriate training plan. Consideration should be given to appropriate methods of assessment and monitoring. The Practical Assessment requires the student to demonstrate proficiency in the delivery of a part of a sample session with the client and specific attention will be given to the student's client interaction, error correction and coaching style.
