SHN6013 - Leadership and Enterprise in Health, Social Care and Community Settings

Objectives:

Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.

Content:

This module will cover contemporary developments in leadership and enterprise within the health and social care sector. You will develop a critical understanding of leadership theories and concepts including leadership styles, organisational culture, communication theory, team roles, quality assurance, policy and legislation, ethics, diversity and values of leadership. Principles and practice of project management will be covered including managing the stages of a project, application of logic models, funding and bid writing and evaluation methods. . This will include approaches to work-based projects, managing time on projects, skills audits, guidance and advice on negotiating project outcomes and negotiating and agreeing their approach to assessment, along with subject contextualisation and reflective practice . During Semester 1 & 2 you will undertake a professional placement and complete an enterprise project applying the leadership and project management skills covered in the module.

Further details relating to assessment
Post session activities submitted through Moodle will facilitate ongoing formative assessment opportunities via lecturer or peer feedback, these may include responses to case studies, quizzes, forum posts or blogs and self-assessment. One draft opportunity will be provided for each summative assessment with feedback provided at least one week prior to submission.

Project Proposal: [750 words] including a project outline, reflective outline of approach, intended outcomes, set in context of relevant literature / sector best practice.

Negotiated Placement: Successful completion of min 80 hrs in a relevant placement in the health and social care sector. Please note that Enhanced DBS is required for placement.

In relation to the work-placement, a tripartite sign-off form will be required. This form will include the details of the project outline by the student, will be verified by the employer and will be signed off by the study supervisor. This should also include an agreed pattern of working hours.

The employer will also be asked to submit 3 appraisal forms (end Sem 1, mid-Feb Sem 2 and end Sem 2).

Enterprise Project: [5000 words] using project management skills to lead on a negotiated piece of service improvement. Your project will enable critical analyse and evaluation of your performance on delivering the piece of work in time, on target and if appropriate on budget.

The assessment tasks will allow you to demonstrate critical understanding and application of contemporary leadership, enterprise and project management in the health, social care and community settings.

002 Negotiated Placement must be passed in line with University regulations.
