SHN6013 - Leadership and Enterprise in Health, Social Care and Community Settings

Objectives:

Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.

Content:

This module enables students to develop and negotiate learning outcomes and assessment modes that provide the flexibility for them to apply theoretical understanding and practical work-based development to a chosen context that is applicable and related to health, care, and community settings.

Students will be supported to design, negotiate, and complete a specific collaborative work-based learning project rather than undertake a traditional work placement. Throughout the module, students will be given the autonomy to take ownership of their learning through the independent designing, brokering, negotiating, completing, and evaluating of their Collaborative Work Based Learning Project. Sessions will encourage students to engage with in-depth research into the vast opportunities that a career in health and social care offers to support their journey into graduate employment; helping them to make informed and contextualised decisions about their future.

Students are required to undertake a minimum of 80 hours of Collaborative Work Based Learning (expected to be completed between November and March) within a setting relevant to health and social care contexts. Students will identify an area of inquiry from their programme to reflect upon within the work-setting and then choose one of following projects:

Route 1 - To undertake a work-based study project that has been discussed and agreed with the workplace setting and approved by the student’s study supervisor, or

Route 2- To undertake a skills-development project that relates to the application and completion of professionally relevant skills, training, and certification, in agreement with their study supervisor, or

Route 3- To undertake a freelancing activity that relates to the student developing and running a business on a self-employed basis, in agreement with their study supervisor.

As part of the negotiation process, all Collaborative Work Based Learning Projects must be approved and signed off by the Module Co-ordinator/Tutor to ensure they are appropriate and provide the necessary quality and rigour to meet the programme learning outcomes. A risk assessment must also be completed between the student and the Project Host before the project can be signed off.
