Further Detail Relating to Assessment
Task 001: Essay
This assessment requires you to explain the commercialisation of a sport of your choice (you cannot chose football as this will be covered in the field trip, you need to use the knowledge from the field trip and apply it to another sport). You will explore how commercial interests have shaped the sport, describing the impact on its structure, governance, fan experience, and overall growth. The essay should reflect an understanding of key commercial strategies and their effects on the sport at various levels.
Full assessment guidance and a marking criteria is available in the module handbook. This is an early assessment point that will feed into the group presentation at the end of the semester.
Task 002: Group Presentation
Building on the insights gained from your individual essays on the commercialisation of different sports, this group presentation requires you to collaborate with peers (max 4) to compare and contrast the commercialisation of these sports. Your groups will be allocated to ensure a mixture of sports. Your group will present the similarities and differences in how commercialisation has impacted each sport, focusing on key aspects such as revenue generation, governance, fan experience, and challenges.
Full assessment guidance and a marking criteria is available in the module handbook. The presentation will take place at the end of semester 1.
There will be one formative opportunity provided for each of the assessment points.
Assessment across this module is designed to actively develop students’ digital skills, including the ability to create impactful presentations, and communicate insights effectively through digital tools. These skills are essential for engaging with the evolving demands of the global sport industry and for enhancing professional readiness in a digitally driven world.
