Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.
This module will introduce you to several areas including professional standards, client assessment and soft tissue skills. The professional standards aspect will explore the Society of Sports Therapists’ (SST) Standards of Conduct and how these should continually guide your approach to working within the Sports Therapy environment. You will develop your ability to conduct a subjective client assessment and a basic objective client assessment. Furthermore, you will develop your soft tissue skills which will include treatments for pathological and non-pathological tissues and a theoretical foundation for the application of these.

Further details relating to assessment
Assessment 001 is a group task where students will demonstrate their understanding of sociological and diverse sports therapy practice.
Assessment 002 will cover the key practical skills required to perform both elements of a basic musculoskeletal assessment and the performance of massage and soft tissue techniques. Each sub-component will be allocated 15 minutes.
Formative assessment will take place during the practical workshops. They will be peer and tutor assessed and involve the practice and feedback of physical skills and tests.
NB. A minimum of 80% attendance is required for this module, which aligns with the expectations of the PSRB for the BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation programme (The Society of Sports Therapists). Failure to achieve this may result in you not being permitted to complete the practical assessment(s) for this module. Students must pass this practical element (assessment component 002).
