On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1 - Demonstrate knowledge of theory in relation to exercise preparation.
2 - Deliver a planned exercise session.
3 - Provide and justify appropriate exercise correction.
This module will introduce the planning of exercise sessions and theories for appropriately preparing clients for exercise. Building on this, skills for leading exercise sessions for individuals and groups will be included to allow you to meet the needs of different clients. Finally, technical exercise correction will be covered to ensure you are capable of enhancing outcomes and reducing injury risk.
This module adopts a blended learning approach, combining interactive seminars and practical sessions in the sports therapy and rehabilitation environment to develop your theoretical understanding and practical competencies. The seminars will allow whole group contribution to include multiple viewpoints and perspectives. The practical sessions will be smaller groups where you will be encouraged to work with a range of your peers. They will include activities to develop your ability to prepare a client for exercise and to instruct clients during exercise. There will also be guided independent study where you will consolidate your in-session learning.

Further Details Relating to Assessment
001 – Attendance
There is an 80% attendance requirement for this module, which aligns with the expectations of The Society of Sports Therapists (SST). Your attendance will be used to determine whether you will be permitted to attempt the practical assessment (002), and thus could have implications for whether you can pass the module. Detailed below are the potential scenarios.
80-100% attendance (inclusive); You will be permitted to attempt the practical assessment (002).
50-79% attendance (inclusive); You may not be permitted to attempt the practical assessment (002) in the first attempt assessment window and you will be given a grade of 0 (Non-Submission). You will only be permitted to attempt the practical assessment (002) in the second attempt assessment window if you attend mandatory catch-up sessions.
0-49% attendance (inclusive); You will not be permitted to attempt the practical assessment (002) in the first attempt assessment window and you will be given a grade of 0 (Non-Submission). Furthermore, it will not be possible to raise your attendance to a sufficient amount with catch-up sessions, therefore you will not be permitted to attempt the practical assessment (002) in the second attempt assessment window and you will be given a grade of 0 (Non-Submission). This will mean you will not pass the assessment (002) and will not pass the module.
002 – Practical (Exercise Session)
This assessment must be passed (40%) for the module to be passed. Additionally, if you are unsafe at any point in this assessment then the maximum mark you can achieve is 35%.
This assessment will require you to plan and deliver an exercise session for a group of participants. Your planning must include theoretical reasoning for your preparation of participants for the session. You must then deliver the session, providing technical exercise correction when appropriate and justifying the corrections made.
Please note that a pass must be achieved in both assessment components 001 and 002, in accordance with PSRB requirements (The Society of Sports Therapists) for 80% attendance and all practical assessments on ‘sports therapy modules’ to be passed.
