SHN4053 - Introduction to Coaching and Teaching

Objectives:

Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.

Content:

This module will develop understanding of Sports Coaching and Physical Education as a curriculum subject in schools and will consider its aims and desired outcomes. The focus for the practical aspect of this module will be Games, introducing invasion games, striking and fielding games as well as net and wall games. Learning will be developed and applied to Games activities, focussing on effective pedagogy as well as safe and effective organisation of the learning environment. The module will also develop understanding and application of theories relating to learning and skill acquisition and the way in which this is used and applied by teachers and coaches.

This module will also incorporate the Level 2 Multi-Skills Coaching award from UK Coaching which will further develop pedagogical skills and techniques.
