Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.
This first module in Strength and Conditioning will introduce essential information that underpins safe and effective practice. In learning to work with clients in strength and conditioning settings topics will cover health screening, inductions, needs assessments, communication and feedback. The nature and scope of the role of the Strength and Conditioning Trainer will be examined in relation to safe and ethical practice. Also included will be national physical activity guidelines, legislation, organisational procedures, and health and safety. Programme design for exercise and sport performance will be explored in relation to the principles of training. Warm up methods, foundation movements and a variety of strength and conditioning techniques will be explored. Peer coaching will be central to the experience and monitoring and evaluation of delivered sessions examined.

The portfolio will require students to complete a series of worksheets covering the key topics within the modules: health screening, inductions, warm-up; training for strength, power, speed, and endurance; and finally a detailed strength & conditioning training session.
