On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1 - Define and explain the importance of health and wellbeing in society, as well as identify some of the basic factors that influence it
2 - Describe the health benefits of sport and physical activity participation
3 - Outline key features of health and physical activity behaviour change interventions with reference to a range of population groups
4 - Offer a range of local and national roles and organisations that are relevant to promoting health, wellbeing and physical activity.
Multi-disciplinary perspectives of the role of exercise and physical activity within the context health. Knowledge of basic key theories such as health and wellbeing, behaviour change, health and safety, intervention design & working with clients will be explored through a range of activities.
The module will consist of a series of interactive lectures and workshops. In the lectures the key topics will be explored and basic theories will be introduced. In the workshops, students will apply the knowledge gained in the lectures to a practical setting. This may include lab sessions, field-based activities and practical workshops.
The module will incorporate a range of interactive modes ranging from debates, to guided independent work, to paired and group work.
Learning will also take place online where students can access a range of resources on the VLE including using multiple choice activities to evaluate their own level of understanding.
Students are expected to conduct around 220 hours of independent study in reading, preparation for taught delivery and preparing assessment for submission.

Workbook
The workbook will be made up of short tasks that address the professional standards of the Health Navigator CIMSPA Accreditation. This will include written tasks that will enable students to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of health and wellbeing, health inequalities, benefits and risks associated with physical activity/inactivity, legislative and regulatory health and safety requirements, as well as knowledge of local pathways and professional boundaries.
Group Presentation
During this group presentation students will work in groups of 3 Each group will be given a heath condition to focus their intervention on. Students will present as a group for 10 mins each, providing details of their planned intervention. This presentation should highlight the health issue in question, identify a suitable physical activity intervention, explore the process of behaviour change within the intervention and demonstrate an awareness of other suitable organisations.
Other relevant matters
This module will have CIMPSA Health Navigator standard embedded. This will allow the students upon completion to have access to this vocational qualification.
