SHA6322 - Professional Development and Placement (Specialist)

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

Demonstrate a reflective approach to professional practice appropriate to the setting and clientele
Demonstrate initiative and positive approach to coaching and mentoring
Carry out tasks in a professional manner, providing a positive contribution to the workplace
Evaluate own performance and make appropriate improvements
Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the requirements of the workplace, the clientele and the professionals within it

Content:

In this module students will undertake a sustained period of professional placement. Students will have chosen the placement in light of specialist interest and will, therefore, be expected to demonstrate competence and understanding of the workplace and the young people with whom they will be working. Students will engage in professional reflection on their ongoing performance with a view to ongoing improvement and understanding of targets in order to take on a position in such a workplace after graduation. They will be expected to work effectively and in a professionally appropriate manner.

Further details relating to assessment
Students will receive one visit from an academic member of staff to ensure entitlement and to support the supervisor in the assessment of the quality of their work.
Students must pass the placement (assessment booklet) and the portfolio.
