Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.
This module builds on the Level 4 module, Introduction to Counselling Psychology, broadening and deepening a critical level of understanding of the major theoretical schools and their derivatives. Students will consider ‘the great psychological debate’ and evaluate the efficacy of a variety of therapeutic interventions, in order to establish what works for whom and under what conditions, including an awareness of conceptual and historical issues in psychology such as cultural, pluralistic and international perspectives. Further awareness of the skills required to deliver effective counselling is developed.

The assessment will include elements such as an academic essay and a reflective journal which focuses on counselling skills training and an ongoing learning and understanding of debates and issues in counselling psychology.
