POL6001 - End Point Assessment – Professional Discussion

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

- engage in a professional discussion about their policing practice to the satisfaction of a panel of assessors.

Content:

This module enables the apprentice to engage in a professional discussion (following a review of the Operational Competency Portfolio (OCP) by the Independent Assessor) and will assess the application of all core workplace-based policing KSBs (excludes policing specialism and higher level knowledge and skills relating to sociology, criminology, evidence-based policing, critical thinking and problem solving, which are assessed via POL6014 and POL6011).

This OCP-based professional discussion will also assess all behaviours (and related attitudes) from the perspective of a policing-workplace setting. Employers (Forces), engaged in this apprenticeship, will provide sufficient opportunity for the apprentice to demonstrate competency across all the required areas of practice, through deployment to operational duties to realise the opportunities to evidence achievement across the full range of core operational activities.

Learning and Teaching Information:

This module content will be delivered through taught sessions and directed study, with further support provided by a blended learning approach using our VLE. This will enable the students to ensure their work-based activities can effectively be demonstrated against the relevant KSB’s for this module.

Apprentices will also be provided with mock assessments through tutorial.

Further details relating to assessment
Gateway entry to the End-Point Assessment will be opened by the Police Force only after it is satisfied that the required evidence has been collected and providing that Level 2 in English and Maths has been achieved. The EPA period is typically the final 9 months of the apprenticeship.

- A one-to-one professional discussion with the Apprentice following a holistic review of the OCP by an Independent Assessor.
- The outcome of the professional discussion is a Pass, Distinction or Fail decision.
- A Fail may be the result of poor quality evidence or insufficient / incomplete evidence.
- The professional discussion may be used to address areas where the student has been unable to gather evidence to meet requirements through no fault of their own.
- This element should be assessed prior to the other EPA elements within POL6014 and POL6011
- The professional discussion should be 60 to 75 minutes long to permit a robust assessment decision, and may be held in person at the force’s site, or at the HEI’s site.
- Video-conferencing is permitted.

All assessments must be passed as a requirement of the College of Policing

The module is exempt from the regulation on marginal failure in order to meet the professional standards set by the College of Policing in the EPA Assessment Plan for the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship.
