PED5732 - Developing the Early Years Curriculum (3-7) 2

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
Develop primary curriculum and subject knowledge in areas of the Foundation Subjects;
Evaluate a range of pedagogical approaches used to develop children's learning in the subject areas studied;
Evaluate pedagogical and assessment processes in the context of EYFS and Key Stage 1 settings;
Evaluate whole-curriculum approaches in the context of EYFS and Key Stage 1 settings.

Content:

In this module, students will develop their knowledge and understanding of pedagogical approaches and methods for the teaching of the broader curriculum in EYFS and KS1. They will review current issues and explore a range of sources in relation to teaching and learning approaches. The module will also provide the opportunity to evaluate skills and knowledge necessary to deliver high quality teaching of EYFS and KS1. They will explore a range of assessment methods identifying suitable modes for the different age phases.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Taught sessions will include a variety of approaches to promote active and collaborative learning. Students will be expected to attend all off-site sessions for field-work.

The reflective report will include an evaluation of cross-curricular learning approaches through experiencing field-work.

This module will develop students’ relevant subject specific and age phase curriculum knowledge requirements taken from the Core Content Framework (2019) and will be enhanced at Level 6; so that by the end of the programme students can demonstrate they have met the following Teachers’ Standards (DfE, 2012):
