On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1 - Evaluate the importance of secure subject and pedagogical knowledge across the core Subjects, PE and Computing, in EYFS & KS1 (K1, K3, E6)
2 - Evaluate ethical and value driven requirements within the EYFS & KS1 curriculum (I4)
3 - Examine theoretical principles underpinning the learning in each subject area studied;(I1)
4 - Reflect on resources and approaches to teaching and learning, demonstrating understanding of how these may be applied effectively in school contexts. (P2)
5 - Evaluate effective teaching and learning strategies for core subjects, computing and PE in EYFS & KS1 (I5)
The module will build on UG Level 4 SKAP sessions. Students will further their knowledge and understanding of developing, adapting and delivering sequences of learning in English, Mathematics, Science, computing and PE across EYFS and KS1.
Subject knowledge and understanding will underpin students' capacity to break learning down into smaller steps to plan and deliver learning sequences, embedding assessments for formative and summative purposes as per relevant national frameworks and structures.
Students will review and deconstruct published schemes of work including units and documentation written and delivered by partner schools in preparation for school experience and academic assessment.
Links are drawn between subject-specific and age-phase pedagogical design and strategies.
During this module, taught sessions will include lectures, practical workshops and tutorials, with a focus on applying subject knowledge and subject-specific pedagogy to be able to plan sequences of learning in maths, English, science, P.E. and computing. Active and collaborative learning approaches will be used, including through incorporating collaborative group work as well as independent study. Learning will be supported by the University’s VLE (Moodle), where a range of directed tasks will be offered.
