On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1 Explain the importance of secure subject and pedagogical knowledge across the core subjects, PE and Computing in KS1 and KS2 (K1; K3; E6)
2 Explain ethical and value driven related requirements within the primary curriculum (I4)
3 Describe basic theoretical principles of learning in each subject area studied; (I1)
4 Reflect on resources and approaches to teaching and learning, demonstrating understanding of how these may be applied effectively in school contexts; (P2)
This module introduces students to the relevant foundational subject and curriculum knowledge in English (including Early Reading and SSP), mathematics, science, computing and P.E across KS1 and KS2.
Module content will also highlight current national priorities in these key subject areas, as identified by DfE and Ofsted. Students will be introduced to signature pedagogical theory and practice for each subject area.
Our curriculum is co-constructed with school partners and the students will have the opportunity to enact practice through school experience.
Non-Assessed Enhancement
Conference activities will be provided in key subject areas to support students' progression from taught module to school experience. These will include, for example an early reading/SSP conference day and a STEM conference day.
During this module, taught sessions will include lectures, practical workshops and conferences, with a focus on building knowledge of subject-specific pedagogy through the modelling of subject-specific practices. Active and collaborative learning approaches will be used, including through incorporating integrative assessment and collaborative group work. Learning will be supported by the University’s VLE (Moodle), where a range of directed tasks will be offered.

Further details relating to assessment
The group discussion focuses on demonstrating an understanding of English and maths subject knowledge. This provides an early assessment opportunity and feedback at L4 for students.
The essay will focus on a subject of choice from the remaining subjects within the module. This provides opportunity for students to demonstrate secure subject knowledge.
Prior to both assignment components, formative assessment opportunities will be provided within subject-specific sessions. For example, sessions may include group and peer discussion, quizzes and presentation opportunities.
Where students are unable to partake in group discussion, an individual submission will be offered as an alternative assessment.
