PED4502 - Preparation for School Experience – 1

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Describe their knowledge and understanding of current professional expectations for teachers in England in Primary Education (I2, E3)

2 Identify emerging gaps in their own knowledge and understanding of current professional expectations (I8, E2)

3 Reflect on next steps and readiness for school through application of practice (I3, E1)

Content:

Students have school experience preparation sessions underpinned by the University’s Core Competencies. They are introduced to the principles behind the reflective tool used to identify the “Learn that” and “Learn how to” statements (ITTECF) and how theory and practice are synthesised between centre and school. Students reflect on the SKAP and PES knowledge from their Level 4 centre-based learning and are prepared to co plan and co teach individual lessons across the curriculum.

Learning and Teaching Information:

During this module, taught sessions will include lead lectures and workshops with a focus on the professional requirements of a teacher in preparation for school experience with a focus on the Personal and Professional Conduct domain. Active and collaborative learning approaches will be used, including through incorporating collaborative group work as well as independent study. Learning will be supported by the University’s VLE (Moodle), where a range of directed tasks will be offered.

Further details relating to assessment
The portfolio will comprise of reflections on CBT sessions, focusing on specific core competencies as directed by the module lead in preparation for the school experience.

Formative assessment will be through peer discussion and tutor feedback during taught sessions.

Summative assessment will be marked against the contextualised rubric in the module handbook.
