MFC6672 - Advancing Your Portfolio Towards End Point Assessment

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
Reflect on their experience, gained from the three levels of apprenticeship and academic study, in order to identify and critique theories and knowledge gained from formal and informal learning, especially learning from and for work;
Demonstrate the ability to present the learning, including KSB’s, in both written and verbal form, claimed against their professional apprenticeship standard, clearly, coherently and convincingly;
Evidence their learning and work-based achievements, understand the purpose and preparation required for the EPA and the connections and relationship between these;
Take lead responsibility for developing a proposal for a work-based project that evidences the application and culmination of their learning, and that is academically coherent and justified, demonstrating its capacity to achieve any final gaps in KSB’s and enabling readiness for the Gate Way and EPA.

Content:

This module consolidates the apprentices learning and workplace experiences to date, introduces them to the requirements of the Gate Way and EPA, enabling them to gain a demonstrable understanding of the purpose and activities needed in preparation for the actual EPA. They will reflect on their learning journals/agreements and conduct the final gap analyses of their Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours (KSBs) and e- portfolio, using this data to build the project proposal leading to their final work-based project. Apprentices will have the opportunity to evidence that they have acquired KSB’s relevant to their occupational standards, are able to identify and articulate where and how they achieved and applied these in their work place.

Apprentices will map this module’s learning outcomes against the KSBs stipulated in their apprenticeship standard. They will collate evidence of this learning within their E. Portfolio (One File or equivalent) and make connections between the apprenticeship, the degree and their job role; ensuring that the apprenticeship standard is being fully addressed.

Apprentices will reflect on and articulate their learning and progression during their apprenticeship in order to focus on, track and plan the next stage of the programme. Gap analysis techniques are used to facilitate this and the individual learning agreement written at Level 4, and referred to at Level 5, will be analysed. Based on this, a project proposal will be created, and will need to pass the module’s assessment criteria, in order for the apprentice to undertake the L6 WB project module.

These apprentices will have already taken the level 4 research skills module – Planning Practitioner Projects.

Further details relating to assessment
Apprentices will undertake exercises and activities to establish what they have already learned, how to evidence this and what they need to learn next. Apprentices will be expected to reflect on the work-place progress reviews, learning agreements, and note and articulate the success and progress achieved against set objectives by their work-place mentor and university tutor. These activities do not form part of the formal assessment but are essential in order to facilitate the apprentice’s successful navigation of the module. Formative feedback will be offered for these activities as the E-Portfolio is further developed.

The assessment method is in keeping with those used in the Work-Based Learning Framework (WBLF) and standard University ethics procedures will be followed.
