MFC6006 - Final Project and Creative Portfolio

Objectives:

Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.

Content:

Students will identify an area of game design to specialise in and develop a brief to work to for their final project. They will draw on all the skills and knowledge they have developed so far in the course across all modules and put them into practice in this Final Project.

Alongside their project work, students will spend time building their creative portfolio. They will look at existing portfolios of professionals who work in the area of Game Design they want to specialise in. This will also provide students with an opportunity to collate examples of work they have from their degree course that can be used in their creative portfolio.

Project and portfolio work will come together as they create their degree show presentation for both assessments and produce work for their creative portfolio.

Further Details Relating to Assessment

Creative Portfolio
Students will review existing professional portfolios, identifying what makes a good portfolio and what are the most suitable platforms for them to use. They will draw on their work during their degree and from their final project work to curate their creative portfolio, including the degree show presentation for the final project.

Project
Students will identify an area in which to specialise and focus in on for the final project. They will work with and negotiate a brief for the final project and present a final version of that brief. Students will submit their brief, an overview of their project to that point, and a review of their project's status in relation to the brief by the start of Semester 2 to prepare themselves for their Semester 2 work. This will give students an opportunity to reflect on what they have done so far and re-assess what they need to do next – evaluating any improvements or iterations on the previous semester’s work, identifying what work they still need to do and how to scope it to fit the time they have. At the end of Semester 2, students will submit and present their final project (artefact) and create a Degree Show piece/presentation of their final project – both elements will be included in the assessment of the project.

In Games Design classes, formative assessment serves to bolster the skills essential for module completion and success. This includes engaging in practical computer lab workshops, undertaking design and modelling tasks, delivering case study presentations, writing essays, completing short quizzes and conducting specific investigation tasks. The provision of formative feedback is integrated seamlessly into class sessions, ensuring an ongoing and iterative process to enhance learning outcomes. This will provide ample opportunities for feedback and feed forward to students before their assignments.
