MFC5634 - Work Based Learning Project

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
Demonstrate the ability to identify and make appropriate use of a range of sources of knowledge and evidence.
Demonstrate an understanding of ethical principles and professional codes relevant to the WBL project.
Analyse and synthesise the information and ideas developed through the WBL project.
Demonstrate reflection upon the design, conduct and outcomes of the WBL project.
Make a selection of approaches to the research methodology, data collection techniques and data analysis and explain how these are appropriate to the aims and objectives of the WBL research project.
Select appropriate content, medium and style that is clear, concise and intended for a range of professional and /or academic communication. Evidence a range of sources of information and demonstrate origins of ideas by referencing sources using a consistent style.
Analyse how the WBL project has been planned and managed.

Content:

The rationale, aims and objectives of this module are drawn up by students in the ‘learning agreement’. It follows that each negotiated module will be unique in terms of its aims.

The project must ensure that the apprentice is able to demonstrate and evidence their competency in a range of knowledge, skills and behaviours from their apprenticeship standard.

Further details relating to assessment
This module will enable apprentices to select the most appropriate method of assessment for component 1 that fits their project. This will be discussed with the module tutor and approved at the beginning of the module.

The 6,000-word project report would enable the apprentice to submit a full report on the planning stage, implementation of the project and outcomes of the project. Alternatively, where an artefact has been produced in the project such as, for example, a strategic plan or a new process this can be presented as an artefact and a smaller 3000-word report which allows the apprentice to analyse the plans, implementation, and outcomes.

The final option would enable an apprentice to complete a 4000-word report and undertake a professional discussion to discuss the outcomes of the project with the module tutor. The professional discussion would be for 10 minutes and would occur virtually within 5 working days prior to submitting the report. Both aspects would be marked collaboratively to produce one overall mark, however the feedback will address the apprentices performance in both areas of the work. Component two will require the apprentices to present their project evaluation. This would cover a reflection upon the success of the project and how the project as enabled them to evidence their competency of specific KSB’s from the apprenticeship standard.
