MFC5093 - Media, Power and Culture

Objectives:

Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.

Content:

This module examines the theoretical and empirical aspects of media, power and culture. The module focuses on each term separately and identifies their points of connection through the analysis of politics, gender, race, identity, celebrity and technology.

Assessment 1: the format of this assignment is negotiable and can take the form of either an essay, series of blog posts, or a video/photographic essay (with 1,000 words of commentary).

Assessment 2: the format of this assignment is negotiable: the details are the same as above.

Early Assessment: there will be a formative assessment within the first 4 weeks and this will help unpack the assignment details for the 1st assignment as well as guide and inform student preparation and help introduce the University grading system.

001 Negotiated format; 3,000 words; end of semester 1 50%
002 Negotiated format; 3,000 words; end of semester 2 50%
