MFC4023 - Core Production

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 - Develop fundamental production skills relevant to the course;
2 - Demonstrate basic proficiency in camera operation, audio recording and editing techniques;
3 - Engage in casting, research and pre-production planning to support project development; and,
4 - Reflect on their experience in a professional context.

Content:

You will be introduced to the practical process of professional video and audio production. You will acquire a practical understanding of basic cinematography, lighting, audio recording and editing, and utilising film production equipment, photography equipment and software appropriate to your course.

The module will provide opportunities for you to develop new or existing production skills and the associated enabling creative skills, whilst cultivating an awareness of specialist equipment, techniques and practices to be used in the following levels of study.

The workshops and assignments have a focus on group working - this is to support and foster professional networking and relevant social and crew-working skills, as well as improve confidence on set/location.

Learning and Teaching Information:

This module is made up of an interconnected and progressing series of in-person practical workshops, in which our experienced team of specialist staff will guide you through use of practical equipment, apps or software, with a view to challenging and improving the technical skills you already have and opening the door to multimedia skills you may not yet have tried at a professional level. There will be two modes of delivery. One will be workshops delivered by course tutors who will explore new concepts and ideas relating to a practical understanding of core practical skills. Connected to this will be a series of workshops delivered by media services which will focus on the technical application of those skills, for example, fostering an understanding of how a specific piece of kit works.
