The examination at the end of the module is designed to mirror the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) and test the foundational legal knowledge across the areas required by that examination. The exam consists of 90 multiple choice questions which require the selection of the best answer, in the same way the SQE does. The exam is taken online and the pass mark is 50% and the exam contributes 75% of the module mark.
You will have lots of opportunities to practice the types of questions throughout the module as there are several practice (formative) tests available to you. How well you do in this exam will give you an indication as to how ready you are to take the SQE 1 exam. You can also take advantage of an SQE readiness assessment offered by the College of Legal Practice.
The professional conversation is an integrated assessment between this module and LAW7053. You will draw on the critical examination of the legal professions undertaken in that module and your experience of this module to reflect critically on the SQE and your own experience of studying for it to provide an examination of the route to qualifying as a solicitor. The integrated assessment helps you locate your experience and preparation for the SQE in its wider context and encourages you to reflect on the process and how you can make the most of it. The pass mark for the presentation is 50% and it contributes 25% of the module mark for this module. Formative opportunities are available throughout the module as part of the teaching sessions so you will have plenty of opportunity to practice having professional conversations in this context
Both assessments take place at the end of Term 1 but will be appropriately spaced throughout the exam and assessment period. You can find more details of the assessment and the support available in the relevant module handbooks and assessment briefs.
