JOU6063 - Advanced Audio Production

Objectives:

Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.

Content:

This module provides a further understanding of radio and podcasts. Building on skills learnt over Level 4 and Level 5, students will be introduced to a higher level of audio interpretation through the use of Multi Track Editing in Adobe Audition, Radio Programme preparation and production, plus enhanced story telling using audio. During Level 6 students will undertake producing a 3-minute radio news package to high journalistic standards, plus contribute to a live radio show broadcast on BCB Radio.

Portfolio 1 and 2 both comprise pieces that reflect the ability to produce audio content reflecting advanced radio skills: such as the use of Multi Track Editing in Adobe Audition, Radio Programme preparation and production, plus enhanced story telling using audio.

Students will be asked to include a short report as part of each portfolio, outlining any legal, ethical and technical considerations, and outlining their sources and approach to their stories, and reflecting on the production experience.

Early Assessment: there will be a formative assessment within the first 4 weeks and this will help unpack the assignment details for the 1st assignment as well as guide and inform student preparation and help introduce the University grading system.

For BA (Hons) Broadcast Journalism only, each portfolio must be passed due to PSRB requirements.
