FDA4013 - Theories of Learning and Development

Objectives:

Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.

Content:

This module examines a range of developmental theories related to the learning of children and young people. Key developmental theories such as attachment, communication, behaviourism and social constructivism will be analysed, and discussed within the contexts of modern family life and work-based settings. Aspects of personal, social, physical, moral, technological and cognitive development can be analysed. You will be encouraged to choose a current feature of modern life and debate its influence on children’s development, including how the factor can make positive outcomes harder to achieve.

A case study is provided for the assessment task and the peer review is focused on a reference list element of the assessment.

Students will have opportunities for formative assessment across the year to guide and inform their preparation in line with the University grading system.
