Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.
Students will begin by getting to grips with how we can express thoughts and opinions in prose writing. Based on the reading of different types of writing, students will develop into skilled manipulators of style, voice, structure, editing and presentation. The emphasis will be placed upon the transferable nature of writing practices between different types of writing. The focus will then shift to Creative Writing, specifically the writing of poetry. Students will apply skills acquired earlier in the module to the writing of poetry, as well as looking at what distinguishes poetry from other genres of writing.

Further details relating to assessment
Classes will include feedback on drafts and oral work by peers and tutor, which will constitute formative feedback and assessment unpacking.

Students will complete one portfolio of prose and the other portfolio of poetry – the order will be set out in the module handbook. The topic for the work will reflect the topic covered in each semester.
Integrated Assessment will be formulated at programme level according to English and Creative Writing LOs.
