DSM5033 - Creating Fictonal Content

Objectives:

On sccessful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 - Demonstrate knowledge and critical understanding of the process of screenwriting;
2 - Devise and produce a production utilising production and technical skills effectively;
3 - Demonstrate the ability to work productively as a member of a team; and,
4 - Reflect critically on their knowledge and understanding in a presentation format.

Content:

In this module, you will be introduced to the process of professional Film and Audio production and acquire a practical understanding of basic videography; lighting; audio production; and post-production; utilising film production equipment.

Students will develop their production skills including lighting a set; shooting on location; working with scripted materials; whilst cultivating their awareness of specialist equipment to be used in the following level.

Learning and Teaching Information:

You will be taught in a series of weekly workshops. In Semester 1 you will develop practical skills, which follow on from the fundamentals of videography, lighting and audio production undertaken on the Level 4 Core Production Skills module. In Semester 1 you will form groups and develop your own script. The final version of this will then be made into the Semester 2 artefact.

Further Details Relating to Assessment

Group Presentation & Script In groups, you will complete a draft script focusing on the topics covered in the module. In addition to submitting the script, the group will give a 5-minute Presentation (making reference to the Theory in Practice Model or Practice Research methods) as their critical reflection on the practice.

Artefact The Artefact will comprise a 5-minute short film produced to relevant specifications, designed to test and develop your skills in technique and analysis.

Formative assessment will be completed within the first 4 weeks. This will clarify what is expected in terms of the linkage between concepts and film technique, as well as the standards and expectations of the final artefact. Feedback will be given.
