Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.
This module will explore the complex issue of safeguarding and protecting children. Included throughout will be consideration of the relationship between ethics and professional accountability and the requirements as set out in current welfare and safeguarding legislation and policy initiatives relevant to this area of study, along with relevant current research findings. Students will be expected to engage with current procedures and understand the frameworks within which all practitioners are expected to operate. Students will learn the different categories of abuse and the impact portrayals of child abuse in the media has had upon practice in safeguarding and welfare fields. They will differentiate between usual child developmental needs and definitions of significant harm.

The Critical Review will include an outline of the different categories of abuse and the impact portrayals of child abuse in the media has had upon practice in safeguarding and welfare fields. The essay will include information regarding policy changes.
Students will have opportunities for formative assessment across the year to guide and inform their preparation in line with the University grading system.
