CYP6035 - Professional Learning Through Work

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
Devise a Collaborative Business Project rooted in an area of professional practice, with agreed aims, timescales and projected outcomes.
Collaborate with professionals to agree a project outline and continuously develop its implementation, leading your own learning and adapting with flexibility if required.
Critically reflect upon the project’s achievements and impact on your developing professionalism

Content:

rofessional Learning Through Work is part of a connected and work-based academic programme which is spread across your entire undergraduate programme. It starts with a short placement or Professional Challenge in Level 4, a compulsory placement in Level 5, and gradually becoming an independent learner through this collaborative project in Year 6.

Core taught content covers:
- approaches to work-based projects
- managing time on projects
- guidance and advice on negotiating project outcomes
- negotiating and agreeing your approach to assessment
- subject contextualisation and reflective practice
- completion of the MySkills assessment in order identify key areas of strength and for development through the project, and to support your post-project reflection

While there are no specific definitions about what a Collaborative Business Project should be, and the nature of your individual projects will depend upon the subject being studyied and/or the industry you are collaborating with. You are required to undertake a minimum of 40 hours (normally between October and March) within a work setting (this needs to be 180 day over 3 years for the PSRB ECSGPC). The work setting could be an employer from the public, private or community/voluntary independent/ /faith sector (For example).

The PLTW module can focus on skills development or a CPD award or micro qualification, such as the Mental Health Lead or other relevant Professional qualifications. Students may feel that their future employability will be significantly enhanced by completing a professionally recognised certification(s) relating to the sector/ role into which they aspire to progress. If this is the option any students choose to undertake for the PLTW module then the tutorial support and project outline assessment will support the mapping out of this CPD award inline with the module requirements and timescales.

Learning and Teaching Information:

The teaching and learning methods for this module are underpinned by programme strategy that aligns with Leeds Trinity University Learning, Teaching and Academic Experience Strategy (LTAE 2022-2026) in that it aims to transform the way we work co-creatively with you, the student, how we connect you and our learning and teaching with the outside world and societal issues. Through this approach we support you on a personalised, values-based and career-led journey through your studies. You will be taught in a variety of methods including problem-based learning using case studies, reflective practice workshops, flipped classrooms; traditional lectures; including participatory workshops which utilise co-creative exercises that will also influence learning and teaching methods. Additional online material will be supplemented using a variety of media and resources, ranging from videos and selected textbooks and articles. The teaching will be face to face and online tutorials may be used to support student progression. Guest speakers will be used to develop an understanding of current educational practice. The practice of relational pedagogy and person-centred planning will be showcased by staff in their delivery style. Further detail on the specific teaching and learning including how these have been developed in response to student feedback, can be found in the module handbook.
