CYP5015 - Professional Placement

Objectives:

Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.

Content:

The emphasis in this module is on employability, professional and academic development - the module will involve three stages: preparation, work placement and reflection.

Preparation: tutorial and workshops reconsidering students’ employability skills; analyse their career prospects and work through potential work-based scenarios; and undertake the practicalities of gaining and undertaking a professional placement.

Professional placement: students will be supported in finding themselves a placement and undertake a period of professional placement in an appropriate setting.

Reflection: students will complete a short weekly reflective log reflecting upon the practical skills gained through the professional placement experience and what they have learnt about the application of theoretical understanding in a practical setting.

Further details relating to assessment
Enhanced DBS required for placement. Formative assessment by self and peers will be integrated into sessions. Further details will be included in the Module Handbook but students will be encouraged to utilise digital skills in the collation and on-going updating of their career development portfolio.

For BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies students engaged with Graduate Practitioner Competencies assignment 1 portfolio and assignment 2 placement and reflection assessments will also be used as part of the end of year review tutorial, to pass/fail competencies. Students can pass the module and gain module credits, and separately pass or fail the competencies progression review. Students must pass the competencies review to progress with the competencies at Level 6.
