Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.
This module builds on previous study at Level 4 in the Play and Learning and Child Development modules and will further develop your understanding of learning and development in the early years. You will be expected to appraise the effectiveness of the early years framework and provision in the UK. You will be expected to analyse critically a range of national and international approaches considering the perspectives and theories related to early years’ education and how each approach supports and encourages the development of creativity.
Formal scheduled teaching and learning activities. This module will be taught using a mixture of lectures, seminars, workshops and groupwork/tutorials, some of which will be student-led. Formative assessment by self and peers will be integrated into the sessions.

Further details relating to assessment
The World Map will consist of a poster-type assessment that shows the spread of international approaches, where they originated, and where they are used by other education systems. The Rationale element will justify why they are used and their strengths and limitations.
The Negotiated Assessment part will involve the students choosing a contemporary or other appropriate platform to demonstrate information about an international approach to early years care and education. It will also include a plan for an activity that follows the chosen approach. This is flexible, and not prescriptive, so can be adapted to suit the ever-changing landscape of IT/media communications/platforms.
The Integrated Assessment will include an observation of filmed evidence of alternative approaches and appraise effectiveness of provision and practice.
Further details will be included in the Module Handbook.
Early and Formative assessment will help to unpack the assignment details for the first assignment as well as guide and inform student preparation in line with the university grading system.
