On successful completion of the module, apprentices will be able to:
1 - Reflect on their experience in order to identify and select knowledge gained from formal and informal learning, especially learning from and for work
2 - Analyse and evaluate personal work-based learning to date
3 - Take responsibility for planning a programme of learning which is academically coherent and appropriate to their job role.
Students will use this module to map the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours (KSBs) stipulated in their Apprenticeship Standard against the learning taken place so far and identify how gaps in learning will be addressed throughout Level 5.
They will collate evidence of this learning within their Portfolio and make connections between the apprenticeship, the degree and their job role; ensuring that the apprenticeship standard is being fully addressed. Students are encouraged to reflect on their learning and progression in order to focus on, track and plan the next stage of the programme. Gap analysis techniques are used to facilitate this and the Individual Learning Agreement written at Level 4 will be revisited.
Through this module Apprentices will lead in the development of a Negotiated Learning Plan designed to meet their personal and professional development needs while at the same time being of potential value to their employer, and acceptable to the University on academic grounds.
This module will encourage apprentices to reflect on where knowledge associated with British Values, Prevent, Healthy Relationships and Safeguarding have been developed at Level 4.
English language skills, both written and verbal, will be developed through this module through the presentation they will deliver. Apprentices will be expected to calculate the percentage of completion for their portfolio and calculate how they will breakdown the achievement of the KSBs in the remaining duration of the programme, therefore Maths skills might be developed at this point.
Digital skills will be developed through the utilisation of online resources such as the University's VLE, e-Portfolio system and Leeds Trinity University Library system. In addition to this, apprentices will develop their digital presentation skills through the use of digital presentation tools.
A variety of teaching and learning strategies will be employed throughout the module in order to ensure the acquisition and development of appropriate concepts, knowledge and skills and achievement of the stated learning outcomes. A variety of teaching and learning methods provide access to learning to meet a wide range of learner needs and are aimed at widening participation amongst learners to avoid exclusion and develop learner skills in academic studies and personal life situations.
The module will be delivered on a blended learning basis, with the apprentices attending a delivery workshop to knowledge to complete all aspects of the module. The module will be taught on a block delivery basis and will include lecture style knowledge content and seminar style activities to discuss the content and enabling the learner to place it into context. This module will also have virtual tutorial café (VTCs) sessions, these group sessions allow for reflective time following the delivery and will be utilised to support the learner in unpacking the content and the assessment requirements. VTC sessions will also be utilised as formative peer feedback sessions.
Independent study time should be spent on specific pre learning (on-demand learning – available to all students on Moodle), for example, engaging in specific background reading of the topic and online exercises. Post learning activities will be provided by the module tutor, but these will generally be assessment focused enabling the learner to achieve the assessment requirements.
All activities and materials provided on Moodle will support the module content for the module delivery including pre, live and post activities and resources. The sequencing of the sessions will provide re-enforcement of the theoretical concepts developed during the delivery in a progressive pattern, aimed at developing knowledge and overall understanding.

Further Detail Relating to Assessment
Component 1
Apprentices will undertake exercises and activities during the delivery sessions to establish what they have already learned, how to evidence this and what they need to learn next. Apprentices will be expected to reflect upon the outputs of these exercises to create an action plan as to how they will address the gaps in their portfolio. This action plan will form the discussion in the presentation.
Component 2
The Learning Agreement enables the apprentice to use the template provided to plan their learning across Level 5 with their line manager. It will enable an opportunity for the apprentice to review their competency in relation to the KSBs and schedule activities for self-directed off the job learning in relation to the modules and KSBs.
