BMM4143 - Globalisation and Social Justice

Objectives:

Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.

Content:

This module is designed to develop the students’ critical understanding of the two broad phenomena of globalisation and social justice.Inspired by the University’s strategic themes, students will explore topics related to poverty, human rights infringements, inequalities or other social justice-related issues. Thecourse links theoretical debates on globalisation and social justice to the current business environment. Students will be expected to use tools they learn during lectures to respond to recent news and other current events that will be debated in the workshops.

Formative assessment practices are an integral part of the learning experience in this module to support students to understand their progress through providing ongoing feedback.

Infographic Poster Presentation: students will work in groups of 4-5 students to explore an issue of globalisation and/or social justice that interests them, they want to know more about and think critically about how businesses can affect that particular context. Students are asked to use their critical skills and knowledge gained throughout the semester to produce and present a graphic visual representation - an infographic poster - of this collected information and data.

Professional Challenge/Placement: all students will need to choose between the Professional Challenge or the Placement by end of Semester 1.

End of Professional Challenge/Placement Reflective Essay: a reflective essay that will include a critical reflection and evaluation of the students' experiences of the placement or professional challenge.

Please note that Professional Challenge/Placement must be passed.
