This module is crafted to explore the pivotal role of creativity and innovation in shaping sustainable businesses. It delves into the various dimensions that foster innovation, from organisational culture to the entrepreneurial mindset, equipping students with the knowledge and skills to thrive in dynamic business environments.
Students will gain insights into how creativity and innovation serve as key drivers for business sustainability. The content covers the importance of innovative cultures, behaviours, structures, systems, procedures and policies that support continuous innovation within corporate organisations and startups.
The module explores the concept of entrepreneurship beyond the act of starting a business, focusing on how entrepreneurial activities contribute to economic wealth and social value. It encompasses individual, corporate and social entrepreneurship, highlighting the diverse impact of entrepreneurial ventures.
This module is designed to provide students with a core understanding of innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship through a blend of theoretical and experiential learning activities. The module includes lectures that establish a foundational understanding of key concepts and provide a structured framework for organising students' learning. However, students are encouraged to be active and independent learners, supplementing lectures and workshops with independent reading and research. This approach helps students become reflective learners, capable of applying theoretical knowledge to real-world situations.
A practical component of the module involves students forming groups to develop and launch a sustainable business idea, integrating principles of innovation and sustainability. This hands-on experience is crucial for understanding the practicalities of entrepreneurship and the intricacies of starting a business. To further enrich the learning experience, the module includes Prep for Tradeshow & Tradeshow Day, allowing students to present their business ideas in a simulated professional environment, as well as Field Visits & Industry Talks Sessions, which provide exposure to real-world business practices and insights from industry professionals. Furthermore, structured peer support sessions where students collaborate to discuss their business ideas for their assignments, share feedback and develop solutions to any challenges they face will take place.
The module emphasises research exploration, creative collaboration and co-creation, offering assignment options that are negotiated and student-centred, promoting inclusion and catering to varied learning styles. Both formative and summative assessments are used to support comprehensive learning outcomes, with formative assessments providing ongoing feedback and opportunities for reflection and adjustment. The module encourages autonomy by allowing students to negotiate certain aspects of their assignments, fostering deeper engagement with the material and personal investment in the learning process.
Lastly, the module is aligned with Leeds Trinity University's commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, adhering to the 'Pre-Live-Post' pedagogical structure that underpins all programmes within the University's academic portfolio. This structured approach to learning ensures a coherent and comprehensive educational experience for our students, facilitating deeper engagement with the subject matter and promoting a more effective learning process.

Further Details Relating to Assessment
Students will be required to create a business that produces an innovative and creative product or service. This business must also demonstrate a clear response to one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The culmination of the module involves students participating in a mini fair trade show style event, where they will trade and sell their products or services developed from their sustainable business idea. This event provides a real-world platform for students to experience the entrepreneurial process from ideation to market.
Within their teams of 3-4 students, students have the flexibility to negotiate the format of their presentation at the trade show. Options include oral presentations or infographics posters, allowing students to tailor their approach to best showcase their business concepts alongside their tangible products or services.
Formative feedback on development of their assessment is provided to students during the workshop sessions, as well as on post class activities. Opportunities to gain more practice and feedback through formative assessments are built into in-class activities, as well as pre and post activities where applicable.
