SHN6143 - Professional Learning Through Work

Objectives:

Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.

Content:

This module enables students to develop and negotiate learning outcomes and assessment modes that provide the flexibility for them to apply theoretical understanding and practical work-based development to a chosen context. This will include a work-based project or work-based intervention appropriate to the programme of study. Evidencing entrepreneurial skills, students will be expected to negotiate an area of responsibility with their employer that meets the specified needs of both the employer and programme of study. In negotiating the area of responsibilities, students should complete (or revisit) a professional skills audit based on previous placement experiences. In preparing for the work-based experience, industry speakers will be invited to contribute.

Through the module, general and programme specific content will allow students to understand the importance of excellent customer service, understand their own, or sector organisations’ products and offering and understand how to present themselves in a professional and approachable manner, in line with own professional values as well as organisational standards. Workplace policy and procedures will be reviewed including emergency action plans, normal operating plans, equality and diversity and risk assessments.
