JOU5063 - Creating Content

Objectives:

Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.

Content:

In this module students develop their production skills across a range of both well-established and emerging platforms. Students learn how to nuance their understanding of audience, distinguishing audience demographics across diverse social media platforms, and strategies for varying communication to target the different audience sectors.

The ability to tell factual stories in an innovative and creative way is at the heart of this module. This involves deep consideration of both the planning of production and the practical challenge of working to a brief. This module has an emphasis on emerging trends within the world of content creation.

Students will also build on their professional development skills to prepare for their placements. Placement may be taken for example one day a week across the year, and/or in a block at the end in negotiation with tutors. Students must complete an equivalent total of six weeks.

The Semester 1 portfolio includes employability related materials such as CV & cover letter, Journalism & Media Week coverage, etc.

The Semester 2 portfolio includes assessing various multimedia skills and will be subject to change depending on software and social media developments within the sector.

The Individual Presentation reports on the placement: the nature of the host organisation, the student’s individual role and experiences, and lessons learned.

Early Assessment: there will be a formative assessment within the first 4 weeks and this will help unpack the assignment details for the 1st assignment as well as guide and inform student preparation and help introduce the University grading system.

001 Portflio; equivalent to 1,500 words, end of semester 1 80%
002 Placement; 150 hours; pass/fail; placement period 0%
003 Presentation on placement; 5 minutes; end of placement 20%
