CYP6032 - Leading Health and Social Care in a Multi-agency Environment

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
Examine theoretical perspectives relating to effective health and social care leadership and management skills, including team management, strategic overview and leading through change.
Critically analyse the role of leaders in the health and social care workforce, particularly in relation to leadership skills and ethical awareness required for inter-agency working and lead professional responsibilities.
Evaluate roles and responsibilities in terms of leading aspects of health and social care multi-agency responses to vulnerable children, young people and adults.

Content:

For practitioners who cross the boundaries between professions in health and social care services, leadership skills include an awareness of a range of professional contexts, cultures, language and ethical responsibilities within a statutory framework and associated policy guidance (Care Act 2014 and associated update guidance 2016). Students will consider the inter-disciplinary roles undertaken by professionals working in the multi-agency workforce and how the 'team around vulnerable service users' can effectively be established and managed. Students will also develop an awareness of leading and managing health and social care collaboration in assessing and safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. Subject content of learning and teaching sessions will also include theoretical perspectives on group and team dynamics and models of leadership, and their application in a health and social care context.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning will take place in interactive sessions, incorporating theoretical perspectives, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions. Formative assessment opportunities will be provided throughout the module. Not only will students have access to tutorials for preliminary feedback on plans, students will also take part in formative peer assessment.

The Portfolio will be divided into four sections, including:

1. analysis of key policy documents concerning leading and managing health and social care
2. case study evaluation of critical incidents and implications for leadership and management
3. literature review of multi-agency work based on student selected group (vulnerable children or adults)
4. learning evaluation.
