COM5023 - Professional Development and Placement

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
Identify their own approach to team working and reflect on personal strengths and weaknesses in employability;
Research possible job opportunities and prepare a career plan;
Apply knowledge and skills in the workplace and perform to a satisfactory standard during their 6-week placement;
Understand the value of a strong personal brand and develop the ability to articulate their personal career brand with confidence.

Content:

The preparation course will guide students for preparing career plans, searching for job opportunities and experiencing a typical Graduate Trainee process through an Assessment Centre experience. Workshops will encourage students to analyse their personality and develop their personal/career brand. Students will also be supported to explore effective interpersonal communications and relationships in the workplace.

Learning and Teaching Information:

The main delivery of this module will take place during weekly workshops and a full day conference providing an Assessment Centre type experience. Weekly sessions will use lecture and workshop formats to further develop students’ professional skills and mindset and prepare them for their placement. Reflective diaries will help students think critically and strategically about their personal and professional development, while the day conference will provide an opportunity for students to engage in high-level discussion with industry insights.
