On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
Critically appraise the psychological factors, which affect individual, group and team performance in sport.
Identify research trends in sport psychology.
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the psychological measures.
Collect and analyse data pertaining to psychological study.
Identify implications of sport psychology research in practice.
This module aims to provide a comprehensive overview of core sport psychology theories and topics, focussing specially on the application of these workings within a practical context. The module will look to further develop students' knowledge of the fundamental concepts of sport psychology practice, with theoretical and practical links also being established with other practice-based professions e.g. sports coaching, sport science, and teaching.
Theoretical concepts are introduced in lectures before being discussed further in seminars.
Seminars contain interactive tasks such as psychometric assessment and analysis as well as small group activities and presentations of project work to date for formative feedback (including peer feedback). Seminars also support learning through discussion, supported further with online support forums, quizzes and reading activities.
Workshops focus on use of appropriate research approaches to provide guidance and peer feedback on the assessment task.
