Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
Apply knowledge and understanding of processes required in managing an event
Apply theoretical concepts to managing an event
Utilise effective modes of communication to propose an event
Critically evaluate the processes required in event management

Content:

Event management processes and theories. These include the screening processes such as operational, marketing and financial screening for events with associated theories. Students will learn how to apply the theory to practice and apply the processes in practice. Group work will form an important aspect of the module and students will learn effective group working processes. Students will also learn of the benefits of working with key stakeholders and experience this in practice. The practical aspects will involve planning and delivering an event and critically evaluating the processes as well as the event itself.

Learning and Teaching Information:

In lectures students gain knowledge and understanding of key processes and theoretical concepts in event management. In the seminars students develop deeper understanding of the lecture material through enquiry led learning and in the workshops students develop deeper understanding of topics through problem based learning. The practical activities involve site-visits, real-world experiences, delivery of events.

Practical (oral group presentation) group - event proposal. Intended group size is 5. Students present the various processes considered in the preparatory stages to the event, drawing on the theoretical content as well as the practical activities undertaken.

Report - Critical reflection. Individually written, the piece intends to address the outcome of the processes of event planning and the event itself, drawing on theoretical and practical examples in the critical reflection.

002 Coursework (Report); 2,000 words; End of Semester 50%
