On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
Explain the similarities and differences between international, global, and cross-cultural psychology.
Critically consider how the definition and study of psychology is influenced by international and cultural factors.
Demonstrate understanding of how established psychological phenomena are defined and examined in different cultures.
Critically consider how an understanding of cultural and international differences can enhance an understanding and application of psychology
The module focuses on the practice, research, and development of psychology in different parts of the world, and the implications that this has for the study and application of psychology. This will include, but not be limited to, elements of cross-cultural psychology, broadly defined as a comparative study of behaviour and mental processes and the consideration of relevant cultural issues.
The further development of psychological literacy within this module will underpin students' abilities to consider how they might think about the contribution they can make to the world.
The module delivery will be focused on workshop-based teaching in which students work in small groups to discuss issues and undertake a range of tasks.
A wider range of materials will be provided on the VLE to support students as developing independent learners. The time allocated for guided self-managed learning activities will allow students to use a variety of library facilities such as book chapters, online resources, or journal articles.
