PED7313 - Planning for Progression

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, participants will be able to:
Critically examine and reflect on their own professional practice to identify professional development needs, and justify personal learning goals;
Identify and synthesise research and scholarship, and precis key theoretical and policy frameworks related to the substantive topic;
Critically evaluate and apply research findings and other evidence to inform their practice in the substantive topic, taking into account ethical considerations;
Judge the impact of their learning on professional practice in education, and justify implications for own future professional development.

Content:

Participants will:
- Identify an aspect of their own professional practice as the focus for this module;
- Develop their understanding of their chosen topic through reading and reflection;
- Use a Reflective Practice Assignment Planning proforma to plan an appropriate investigation;
- Conduct, evaluate and write up the work-based investigation;
- Use reflective practitioner and/or practitioner research approaches to evaluate their own practice.

Learning and Teaching Information:

This is a more independent study module with support and input from the University. Participants will be invited to attend structured group sessions which will support them in developing, undertaking and evaluating a work-based investigation and in reporting the outcomes.

Further details relating to assessment
Assessment is through a reflective practice assignment. It will address the module and programme learning outcomes and is directly related to professional practice. As such, students will evidence professional practices within the supporting evidence and evaluate and reflect upon them within the assignment. It provides opportunities for participants to reflect upon, critique, and investigate research, policy and practice as it impacts on their professional practice.
