MFC5152 - Digital Imaging

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
Demonstrate proficiency in the processing and manipulation of digital photographic images using specialist imaging software.
Produce images to a given commercial brief, for a range of specific commercial purposes and in a range of pre-set formats.
Analyse and evaluate their engagement with clients and audiences.

Content:

The module provides more specialist engagement with the commercial aspects of digital imaging. You learn how to apply your digital imaging skills to specific commercial purposes, audiences and markets. You will practise and apply techniques for the production of items, such as photographic and online compositions and multimedia assets in the form of poster; web banner advertising; DTP layout concepts; a web or mobile site containing images, text, animation; 2D printed promotional paper media for PR purposes.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Short lecture presentations will introduce and outline the basic nature of production practice and the range of commercial requirements for digital images. Through workshops you will work on digital images for a range of practical requirements. The work submitted for assessment will be developed within these workshops.

Portfolios: these will normally include a number of exercises designed to develop technical and analytical skills and familiarise students with practices and resources current within the field of study.
