Further details relating to assessment
During Semester 1, students will engage with various EPO, professional and academic events and activities. Utilising these events (and Media Festival if timing allows) students will write a research piece on a chosen sector which interests them (Sector Research). These are then randomly assigned and anonymously marked by several other students (Peer Assessment). Both parts of this are assigned a mark.
This semester also includes a digital skills assessment as part of their individual portfolio.
During Semester 1 students will be formed into groups and assign clear roles. They will be given a brief from which they will design and produce a production piece of media. It is expected that the production will take place in semester 2.
The groups must keep accurate and comprehensive records that would normally be associated with such productions (from scripts to compliance, from minutes to design roughs, from expenses to copyright) and collate this into a single portfolio (Legal Binder).
Each student will grade each team member on their team-working, professionalism and work ethic in an anonymous performance review which will allow their group merit mark to be peer adjusted.
The placement element is normally of 6 weeks' duration and may comprise an external placement or other structured professional experience which meets the learning objectives of the module and involves an equivalent workload. In either case, the placement will be the subject of explicit agreement between the student, supervisor, module co-ordinator and EPO.
Students will write and submit a weekly critical reflection during their placement.
Students permitted to take the module as a half-module for 10 credits will be assessed on the basis of the placement, weekly reflections whilst on placement and a 1,000 word summary reflection on their learning during the placement experience.
