SHN6412 - Exercise Referral

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

Understand and critically evaluate the exercise referral model.
Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the design, adaptation and evaluation of exercise referral programmes.
Competently instruct exercise to exercise referral patients in an effective and safe manner.
Undertake a case study.

Content:

Role and importance of exercise referral related policies and key documents; role and responsibilities within an exercise referral scheme; current healthcare systems in the UK; exercise referral process; exercise referral schemes; risk stratification in exercise referral; design, instruction and evaluation of exercise referral programmes.

Learning and Teaching Information:

The sessions will be organised in mainly 3-hour teaching blocks. Initially, workshops will help students understand and critically evaluate the Exercise Referral model. Workshops will then focus on the knowledge and understanding needs to design, implement and evaluate the exercise referral process. Students will then apply this knowledge to the assessed case study and 30-minute assessed practical.
