Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of theories of learning.
Evaluate factors affecting learning and their contribution to an effective learning experience.
Demonstrate understanding of the contribution swimming, gymnastics and dance make to secondary PE.
Construct short and medium term plans, identifying key factors to promote progressive learning.
Demonstrate understanding and application of assessing progress towards objectives and attainment targets.

Content:

Psychology of Learning Theories of learning, Factors affecting learning:
- Developing confidence and efficacy
- Formation of attitudes, changing attitudes
- Motivation, self-determination theory
- Teaching and learning styles: Mosston's spectrum - Cultural and gender issues in PE
- Short and Medium term planning, Factors affecting progressive planning in the focus activities.

Management of:
- Time
- Space
- Pupils
- Behaviour

Progression within and across a series of lessons
- Assessing pupil progress, summative and formative methods of assessment.

Recording and reporting
- Practical focus:
- Swimming
- Gymnastics
- Dance
