PED5532 - Developing the foundation subject and Religious Education

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1 Demonstrate an understanding of the complexity of the interaction between learning and contexts, and the range of ways in which participants (including learners and teachers) can influence the learning process.
2 Select a range of relevant primary and secondary sources, including theoretical and research-based evidence, to extend their knowledge and understanding.
3 Demonstrate an understanding of the significance and limitations of theory and research.
4 Demonstrate organisation and articulate opinions and arguments in speech and writing using relevant specialist vocabulary.

Key Stage 2
To have knowledge and understanding of pedagogical approaches and methods in the teaching of PE, MFL and Geography.
To debate current issues with regard to PE, MFL and Geography.
To explore, interrogate and critically evaluate a range of research journal articles in relation to the teaching of PE, MFL and Geography in the Primary School.
Physical Education as part of the Primary Curriculum. The value and health benefits related to the teaching of PE, health and bodily awareness, exploring current initiatives associated with healthy lifestyles.
MFL: This module will equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to deliver high quality teaching of Modern Foreign Languages in the primary context. They will be supported in developing their personal language skills and understanding of the language and its culture, through the provision of specialist input into a variety of approaches for the delivery of Modern Foreign Languages in the primary classroom.

This module will address the following from the Teachers' Standards effective from 1st September, 2012:
2 Promote good progress and outcomes by pupils
3 Demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge
4 Plan and teach well structured lessons
