HUM7166 - Dissertation

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

produce a sustained, coherent poetry collection or body of prose writing;
demonstrate a sophisticated and comprehensive understanding of the creative process;
demonstrate an advanced and wide-ranging knowledge and understanding of literary texts cognate to their own work;
demonstrate advanced critical awareness of cultural and stylistic issues pertaining to creative writing and apply it to their own work;
demonstrate professional competence in presenting creative work.

Content:

This module builds upon workshop modules to further support and develop students' writing skills in their chosen medium. Through individual guidance and tutor feedback, students will build on previous work in order to produce a substantial prose work or collection of poetry which is of a standard to submit for publication.

Learning and Teaching Information:

One-to-one sessions with tutors on a schedule agreed between student and tutor. The first meeting will be devoted to planning and setting a timetable for producing work and a meeting schedule which will most effectively support the development of the work.
