ENG4000 - Programme Level Assessment

Objectives:

1. To develop students' abilities in group work, project management, effective communication and research.

2. To encourage students to work in flexible and creative ways, by developing skills and habits of self-motivation and independence in study of thought.

3. To help students prepare and present assessed work in an articulate manner, both individually and in collaboration, and in various media.

Content:

Students will work in groups to complete one of the specified projects (there will typically be 5 or 6 projects offered). The projects require the students to devise and conduct a basic research task and to present it in a particular format or medium in a way that should catch and hold the attention of a general (i.e. non-academic) audience. Each project will require the students to engage with a specific item of technology (hardware or software) that is new to them: examples include voice recording; film-making; use of survey tools; data visualization software).

The projects will be set by the respective programme teams and will be designed to develop research skills, group work skills, engagement with media technologies and consideration of the public impact of the respective degree programme.
